Cult clip: Scream And Scream Again (1969)

As I said in the introduction to mod horror feature some time back, Scream And Scream Again focuses on a serial killer in swinging London, who drains the blood of his victims, popping up in a club where Amen Corner happen to be the house band to pick up victims. And the rest of the plot is so complicated, it's likely to make your head hurt.

But it's a film you need to see at least once. Check out the equally weird trailer...

Cult clip: Zeta One (1969)

A right Carry On - only this time in space - Zeta One is a trashy exploitation flick from the late 60s, starring the likes of James Robertson Justice and Charles Hawtrey.

The plot? Well, women are being kidnapped by aliens in an attempt to re-populate their planet. Yes, that old one - but with some high end, late 60s interior design to make it all the more watchable.

No way of buying it in the UK, so just enjoy the trailer for now.

DVD Review: A Place To Go (1963)

It wasn't just grim up north in the early 60s - life was equally as dark in the capital judging by A Place To Go.

This is Bethnal Green in 1963 - an area at a crossroads, with the traditional terraces being cleared as part of the 'slum clearance', relocated in the newly-constructed bright and shiny tower blocks. And it's not just the housing that leaves a lot to be desired - the work isn't up to much either. And that's why Ricky Flint (Michael Sarne) wants out. And if you want a quick way of making cash, crime is the only way of getting it.

A tribute to Patrick McGoohan

Patrick McGoohan has died after a short illness, aged 80.

He may be gone, but his work will live on - most notably as a super cool secret agent (working and retired) in the cult classics Danger Man and The Prisoner, but also in a host of British films including the likes of Hell Drivers, All Night Long and Life For Ruth to name just three. McGoohan was even considered for the original Bond role - a role he would have fit like a glove.

He left these shores amid the furore over The Prisoner, making a name for himself on TV, picking up two Emmy awards for the Columbo show and appearing regularly on both the big and small screen right up to the mid-90s.

But it's The Prisoner that will be his lasting legacy - and here's the iconic opening sequence by way of a tribute...

Coming to DVD: A Place To Go (1963)

Odeon's first releases for 2009 have been announced - and that list includes A Place To Go from 1963.

It's a slice of gritty realism from the early 60s - and a first-time DVD release. The movie is based around Bethnal Green in East London and focuses on Ricky Flint (Mike Sarne), struggling to find his way in an ever-changing East End, with the streets he knows being demolished to make way for high rise blocks of flats.

He plots a means of escape - a one-off crime of robbing a cigarette factory, pulling a gang together to do the job. But things get more complicated when he meets Cat (Rita Tushingham)...
