Remember Armchair Cinema? No, me neither. I'm sure it was a pretty good series, but even if it wasn't, it spawned one classic episode and one classic TV series which is still on the box right now, The Sweeney. That episode was called Regan and it's just been issued by Network on Blu-ray for the very first time.
If you like the idea of watching some cult TV from the 1960s and 1970s in glorious high definition, you'll want to own the forthcoming Retro Action! Blu-ray discs, which are available from Network from 28th February 2011. or better still, you can be in with a chance of winning one of three sets of Blu-ray discs in our latest competition.
The three discs showcase a selection of ITC from those years, each one restored for these releases. Volume one features The Persuaders!, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), Department S, The Champions and The Strange Report, volume two has The Saint, Danger Man, The Prisoner, Gideon's Way and Man In A Suitcase and on volume three, you'll find The Adventures of Robin Hood, Shirley's World, The Invisible Man, The Baron, Return of the Saint and The Zoo Gang. For episode details of each, or to buy, check out the Network DVD website http://www.networkdvd.net
Want to get in the draw? Just head to the competition page, which is hosted on our Modculture site, enter your details and you'll be in the 'hat'. Want to see a trailer? See over the page for the trailers for both volume one and volume two.
Details are still sketchy, but we do know roughly what we will get when The Avengers 50th anniversary DVD box set land in December.
For a start, it offers all The Avengers episodes that are currently being released series by series by Optimum, including the pile of extras each set has offered. But there will also be an extra disc, exclusive to the set - although we don't know what will actually include right now.
The whole thing is a limited edition, packaged in the book-like casing, with each pair of discs opening up to a still of the the series. The price of all that? £199.99 officially, although that's discounted to £149.99 at Amazon, which does mean a hefty saving on buying the individual series separately. See over the page for another image - it's out on 6th december 2010.
One of the biggest cult TV shows of the 1970s gets a first-time issue on Blu-ray in the coming weeks - we're talking about Space 1999, which is being released by Network.
Packing more space age design than a high-end Chelsea retailer in 1973 and more stretchy flared trousers than Studio 54, this Gerry Anderson-produced show (as the title suggests) was set from September 13th, 1999 - when a nuclear waste dump explodes, blasting the Moon and Moonbase Alpha out of Earth's orbit and into a world of weird and wonderful, 70s-styled aliens and space hangouts.
